Spelling processing during handwriting and typing and the role of reading and visual-motor skills when typing is less practiced than handwriting

چکیده
Abstract The automatization of handwriting and typing is sustained by both sensorimotor linguistic abilities that support the integration central-linguistic processes with modality-specific peripheral-motor programs. How this evolves when and, especially, not fully automatized has been well-understood yet. In present work, we had two main aims: (1) to understand how spelling processing affects word production in a sample 9th-grade Italian students who have extensive practice but less experience typing, (2) unveil if reading visual-motor skills writer/typists role integrating motor execution. Thirty-six participants handwrote typed dictation words pseudowords different lengths orthographic complexity. To test during collected measures latency (RTs)—i.e. interval between spoken stimulus availability starting write—, interletter mean—i.e., mean intervals consecutive letters—, whole response duration—i.e. execution time entire stimulus. We further assessed participants’ analyze their impact on chronometric as function proprieties stimuli. Our findings show pattern for handwriting, process our participants, which stronger lexical sublexical effects emerged. Furthermore, interacted differently transcription modalities unveiling individual according typing.

computers in schools, the majority of students still write by hand rather than using a keyboard. Children spend 31 to 60 per cent of their school day engaged in handwriting tasks (McHale & Cermak, 1992) and consequently handwriting ability remains an important factor in learning and assessment. Handwriting is a complex perceptualmotor skill that is vulnerable to a wide variety of dysfunctions, ...

The purpose of this inquiry was to examine the interrelations among handwriting legibility and speed, and underlying perceptual-motor skills in Persian language students. Seventy students (26 male, 44 female; 10.21 ± 1.02 yr; 30 poor and 40 good control hand writers) were assessed during a copying task. The children completed the visual-motor control (VMC), upper-limb speed and dexterity (ULSD)...
متن کاملLexical orthography acquisition: Is handwriting better than spelling aloud?
Lexical orthography acquisition is currently described as the building of links between the visual forms and the auditory forms of whole words. However, a growing body of data suggests that a motor component could further be involved in orthographic acquisition. A few studies support the idea that reading plus handwriting is a better lexical orthographic learning situation than reading alone. H...
